History of the AMDATA Product Line

AMDATA was founded in 1979 and became a subsidiary of Combustion Engineering, Inc. in 1985.

In 1987, the core engineering and field service organization of CE's In-Service Inspection (ISI) Group was transferred into AMDATA.

Corporate ownership shifted from Combustion Engineering to Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) in 1995.

In 2000, corporate ownership changed from ABB to British Nuclear Fuels Limited (BNFL), reporting thorough Westinghouse (another BNFL acquisition that occurred in 1999). AMDATA was then transferred to WesDyne, a wholly owned subsidiary of Westinghouse to realize the synergies between NDE (Non-Destructive Examination) Products and NDE services

In 2006, Toshiba purchased Westinghouse/WesDyne from BNFL.

The primary operations facility for producing the AMDATA product line is a standalone 20,000 square feet building located in Windsor, Connecticut.

This facility houses all resources needed to process a customer's design project from concept through delivery of field-ready inspection systems or services.

WesDyne's Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) applications laboratory is typically used for applied development in the areas of ultrasonic and eddy current techniques and systems. WesDyne's NDE lab has engaged in over twenty years of development of ultrasonic and eddy current sensor technologies.

The NDE Laboratory is capable of rapid turnaround of custom ultrasonic transducers and wedges, and can fabricate calibration standards for all NDE disciplines.

In the signal processing area, innovations have included SAFT (Synthetic Aperture Focusing Techniques) and conventional A, B, and C imaging using real time high speed digitization methods. More recently, we have added TOFD (time-of-flight tip difffraction) and phased array imaging capabilities.

In addition to addressing custom NDE applications, the AMDATA product line contains a comprehensive line of NDE data acquisition and imaging systems, known as the IntraSpect™ series. These systems are utilized to scan materials for flaws and defects, to analyze and classify the data, and to generate color-keyed images of the results.

The ultrasonic IntraSpect™ system offers complete capability for the acquisition and analysis of ultrasonic waveforms, image processing, and presentation of material inspection results. This system has been qualified at EPRI and is utilized by clients the world over.
